Good Afternoon,

I am currently representing Brent Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate £17.27 which is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Grounds Person this role will be: HA0 1AF

The right candidate will:

  • To be competent and appropriately qualified in all skilled work relating to the horticultural maintenance of cemeteries including amenity area, bedding, shrubberies, rose beds, herbaceous borders, rockeries, water gardens, features, grass verges and lawns.
  • Drive and operate vehicles such as light trucks of less than 7.5 tonnes, excavators, dumpers, UTVs, ATVs, tractors and ride on mowers, with trailers and towing gear where required.
  • To ensure that cemeteries are free from litter, bins are emptied, fallen branches collected, leaves raked from grassed areas, paths, car parking areas and roadways are swept and free from mud and detritus. Reporting and defects and necessary repairs to the cemetery’s superintendent.
  • To be responsible for pesticide management, lawn preparation and maintenance throughout all cemeteries, arboriculture, plant and machinery including power tools
  • To actively work with the cemeteries superintendent(s) to improve quality of Brent cemeteries grounds.

We require the following:

  • A thorough understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation and how to apply it
  • A proven track record of grounds person duties and to have a good working knowledge of a variety of amenity management practices including horticulture, arboriculture and grass maintenance
  • Detailed knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and tasks, including safe operation of plant, ride-on and hand mowers, hedge trimmers, industrial strimmers and hand tools.
  • Experience of driving tractors, light vans, road sweepers, UTVs and trailered vehicles.
  • A knowledge of the different cultural and religious requirements related to cemeteries.
  • NVQ, BTEC National Diploma, City & Guilds Certificate, or other, relevant in Horticulture / Grounds Maintenance
  • Holder of, or willingness to train, PA1 & PA6 recognised certificate of competence for handling and safe use of pesticides (required in accordance with the Control of Pesticides Regulations)
  • Full, valid UK driving licence
