We are currently recruiting for experienced Police Staff Investigator to work on a full-time, long-term contract with West Midlands Police, based in Birmingham.

The role will involve working directly with the Professional Standards Department (PSD) and will be primarily office based.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8am-4pm, although there can be some flexibility on specific hours, e.g. 9am-5pm or 7am-3pm

The rate of pay will be £18.12p per hour.

Role overview:

Working as a member of the Investigation Team, you will be responsible for conducting investigations into complaints, conduct, death and serious injury incidents and other matters in accordance with legislation, guidance and organisational values.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting investigations proportionate to the allegation or potential impact on the organisation, with focus on timeliness and contact.
     
  2. In line with the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 and Police (Complaints and Misconduct) Regulations 2020, identify opportunities for prevention, reflection and learning.
     
  3. Deal with telephone enquiries or personal visits by members of the public or other agencies, taking responsibility to seek to resolve issues raised at the earliest opportunity.
     
  4. CCTV viewing and viewing logs to document this evidentially.
     
  5. Interviews of witnesses
     
  6. Prepare and submit clear and concise investigation reports observing the highest professional standards and ensuring evidential integrity working alongside IOPC, CPS, Legal Services, Police Federation/Unions and other relevant agencies to progress the case.
     

Knowledge/Experience:
 

•           Ability to lead and own investigation relating to crime investigation, acting as officer in the case.

•           Interviewing skills.

•           Knowledge of Professional Standards

•           Ability to interrogate databases to obtain information required.

•           Understanding of the Criminal Justice System.

•           Knowledge of appropriate procedures and regulations

•           Ability to prepare documentation for case files.

•           PIP qualified or prepared to work towards the qualification.

•           IDVA or CADDA qualification or equivalent

•           The post holder may be expected to work additional hours when required. This will be agreed in conjunction with management and the post holder.

•           The post holder may use the Police National Database

•           Vetting required, as advised by the vetting unit.

•           The post holder will be expected to comply with health and safety requirements.

•           The post holder will be required to undertake training as and when required by the organisation.
