Learning Support Assistant

Location: South Liverpool
Position: Full-Time Learning Support Assistant
Start Date: September 2024

Role Overview:

Working under the direction of a qualified teacher, the Learning Support Assistant will:

  • Support class teachers with individuals or small groups of children.
  • Promote inclusion and equal learning opportunities for all pupils.
  • Use behaviour management strategies to create a purposeful learning environment.
  • Safeguard the welfare of children and young people.
  • Follow the Professional Standards for Teaching Assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Understand the learning support needs of individual pupils.
  • Assist with activities set by teaching staff.
  • Supervise pupils' work, clarify instructions, and help with tasks.
  • Adjust learning activities based on pupils' responses.
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Support the evaluation of pupils' progress.
  • Arrange and provide resources for lessons.
  • Foster positive relationships and model good behaviour.
  • Encourage cooperative interactions and engagement.
  • Support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Assist in creating and implementing individual learning plans.
  • Provide ongoing support for pupils needing extra interventions.
  • Help with school trips, events, and activities.
  • Offer feedback to parents and carers on various matters.

School Support:

  • Contribute to the school's ethos and values.
  • Comply with school policies and legislation on safeguarding, equality, and health and safety.
  • Promote equality and inclusion.
  • Supervise pupils outside lesson times.
  • Undertake duties such as first aid and administration of medication.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Support the Pupil Premium Strategy.
  • Participate in school activities, including meetings and clubs.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Work with teaching staff and the SENCO to support pupils.
  • Assist in timetabling interventions.
  • Contribute to annual reviews and report on intervention effectiveness.
  • Use ICT to support learning and develop pupils' independence.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in training and professional development.
  • Provide feedback on training and report progress to a mentor.
