About Us

We are a specialist primary school catering to children aged 4-12 years, with a focus on providing a supportive and nurturing environment for our pupils who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other complex needs. Our mission is to ensure that every child is safe, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.



Your Role

As our Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our pupils. You will be responsible for leading safeguarding initiatives, providing support to staff, and working closely with families and external agencies.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all safeguarding and child protection matters across the school.
  • Develop and implement safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to staff on safeguarding issues.
  • Work closely with families, carers, and external agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of our pupils.
  • Monitor and report on safeguarding incidents and trends.
  • Support the emotional and behavioural needs of pupils, understanding the function of challenging behaviours and implementing appropriate strategies.


Required Skills and Experience

  • Autism Experience: Must have worked with pupils who are autistic and have previous experience in this field.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate in various ways, including Makaton, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD). Experience working with non-verbal pupils is essential.
  • Behaviour Management: Experience working with pupils who display challenging behaviour, with a strong commitment to supporting and understanding these behaviours.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work with pupils aged 4-11, providing a tailored and accessible curriculum.
  • Creative Thinking: Innovative approach to delivering lessons, using tools and strategies such as TEACCH, Attention Autism, and PODD.
  • Safeguarding Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
